Welcome to the Division of Psychology
Welcome to the Division of Psychology website. The purpose of the website is to provide information on the organization of the Division of Psychology and its distinguishing characteristics.
One of the largest associations of psychologists in Japan
The Division of Psychology is a faculty organization of psychology professionals in the University of Tsukuba. We currently have some 30 full-time teaching staff, from assistant professors to professors, making us one of the largest associations of psychology teachers in the country. In fact, as there are additional full-time teachers specializing in psychology in other divisions such as the Division of Education, Division of Disability Sciences, and Division of Policy and Planning Sciences, the actual number of psychology professionals in the University of Tsukuba totals more than 40. We may safely say that we are one of the largest such organizations in Japan.
The Division of Psychology is part of the Faculty of Human Sciences, which also includes the Division of Education and the Division of Disability Sciences.
Broad variety of research fields
The Division of Psychology is organized into five specialized areas: Experimental Psychology (including Biopsychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Psychology of Perception and Sensation), Educational Psychology (including Cognitive Psychology, Educational Psychology, and Language Psychology), Developmental Psychology (studying development from infancy, through childhood and adolescence, to old age), Social Psychology (including Interpersonal Psychology, Psychology of Career Development, and Clinical Social Psychology), and Clinical Psychology (including Counseling Psychology and Health Psychology).
You can see the research interests of the members of the Division of Psychology.
Wide-ranging educational system
In addition to faculty organizations (such as the Division of Psychology), the University of Tsukuba includes the educational organizations of the undergraduate school (called “Schools” or “Colleges” at the University of Tsukuba) and graduate school. The list below shows the educational organizations in which faculty members of the Division of Psychology are involved. The College of Psychology forms part of the undergraduate school. At the graduate level, there is a wide range of related organizations, including, at the Master’s level alone, Master’s Programs in Psychology, in Lifespan Development (a graduate program for working individuals, offering evening and Saturday classes), in Kansei, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, in School Leadership and Professional Development, and in Business Administration and Public Policy. Beyond their educational activities, the faculty members of the Division of Psychology are engaged in the activities of the University Health Center, which provides health and medical care for undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Tsukuba. Our teaching staff also assists the Education Bureau of the Laboratory Schools, which is responsible for the overall education in the laboratory schools.
